Jesús’s Story: Hearing Every Opportunity

Jesús with ARSOBO team.

For Jesús Lorenzo Buitimea Durazo, baseball is more than a sport—it's something he loves and works hard to pursue. At 14 years old, he wears hearing aids in both ears, allowing him to stay connected both on and off the field.

When one of his hearing aids suddenly stopped working, it threatened to interrupt not only his daily life but also the activities he enjoys most.

During a visit to the ARSOBO Hearing Clinic, students and faculty from the University of Arizona's Department of Audiology immediately stepped in to help. They paused their work to repair Jesús's hearing aid, ensuring he could continue participating in school, sports, and everyday life.

This simple act reflects the mission of ARSOBO's Hearing Health Program: providing accessible hearing care that helps children and families overcome barriers to communication, learning, and opportunity.

For Jesús, a repaired hearing aid meant more than restored sound, it meant staying connected to his teammates, continuing to develop his talents, and pursuing the game he loves.

Actions like this help more children and young people continue to develop their abilities and pursue their goals.
